Each section is set to play the minimum number of repeats that are scored, in essence, it's the shortest playing of the work that is possible. I am fascinated by the way the two pianos literally phase cancel and enhance the unchanging melody giving the listener the impression that the musicians are playing different and changing melodies. I did not realize how ingenious this work was until I studied the score. The piece is in 3 sections: parts 2 and 3 are abridged versions of the melody from part 1. Part 2 has a different melody played by the second pianist that is heard solo at the end of the section. All in all, this is an amazing work that has inspired me for years!

This recording is played on marimbas- an alternate scoring of the piece. The phasing effect seems more pronounced on this instrument.

Update

My finished 2011 mixes are playable from the Soundcloud widget on the About Me page - link at the top of this page.

untitled song

This is a string part-writing sketch of a tune I started about 12 years ago.
